So going through all this interviewing has made me realize just how passionate I am about people. When I hear my answers to the interview questions I wonder if the employer thinks I am totally just giving a generic answer because it sounds just a wee bit cheezy.
"If there were no monetary limitations what would you do with your life?"
Me: I would love to be the next Mother Teresa. Which is near impossible, so I'd settle for working with a non-profit organization somewhere in the world offering relief and development.
(By the eye roll and the short flick of their pencil I can only imagine what 4-5 letter word was just sketched onto their evaluation sheet which will most likely define my future.)
"Can you tell me about a situation where you had to sacrifice yourself or desires for another's wellbeing?"
Me: Um yah, one time in Israel I was pushed to the front of a "silent peace march" which turned brutal after tanks rolled in and everyone ran off, I stood behind to be a lone American amongst the Palestines in order there not be a complete manslaughter. In my hands I held tight to two young girls as they watched their father brutally beaten by Israeli soldiers. I refused to budge after being made aware of the importance of an American's prescense.
"Do you consider yourself flexible?"
Me: I'd say that. I learned Spanish in a matter of two months after arriving to a foreign country in which I was to be "shadowing" two missionaries, who surprisingly had left on sobatical upon my arrival and left me in charge of their ministry for the summer. With community outreaches, home visits, and Sunday messages, I managed a community and tackled a foreign language because of my williness to stretch myself and push my limitations.
WHAT EMPLOYER is seriously going to take a mother teresa wannabe/martyr/language prodigy seriously? Let's hope somebody!!! hahaha
In the meantime I continue stapling papers, filing things where I guess they might go, forwarding calls to voicemails and just gaining experience in LIFE and LIVES of so many individuals. I sincerely adore working with people...constant interactions, stories, differences...it is so intrigueing to me.
The first book of the bible tells us we were all made in God's image. I interpret that as if we all possess a Characteristic of Christ. The more people that I encounter and even befriend...the more of God I see, and yet another characteristic of Christ is revealed that I would not have seen had I not had this divine encounter. Life is good..and God is faithful. I have another interview tomorrow morning...still awaiting news from the second interview last week..and currently working fulltime subbing in the school district. He leads, I follow. I just hope we never sit still....cuz this ride is wild and I so look forward to all that is to come!!
