Happy 200th Birthday Chile!!!

So the next week is the one week that everyone has been waiting for. Since the day I stepped off the plane everyone has been telling me, "Just wait for September 18th..you are going to love it!!" And as we counted down the days, and grocery stores stocked up on Chorizo and Wine...the festivities began.

Classes have been canceled since Wednesday and don't resume until Tuesday. Which I of course canceled all of mine becuase it's not even worth teaching a class which only 5 people will show up and most likely happen to be hung over.

Festivities include:
Lastnight ---Barbeque at a Castle/Community party in the ghetto/1 dollar drinks till the sun comes up in Valpo
Today--Visit the fondas (huge carnival tents with food booths, booze, and festivities), Eat tradicional Chilean dishes, dance La Cueca (the national dance) and watch the fireworks in the Port from Jeanette's Patio.
Tomorrow (the actual holiday)---Barbeque in Cerro Yungay, travel to Santiago and party in the plazas
Sunday-Tuesday: Heading to Pichilemu..pitchin a tent, surf all day, bonfires on the beach, barbeques in the evening, and dancing till sunrise.

I will admit it took sometime to grow accustom to the chilean "partying" ways but you have not officially assimilated until you have survived a night of 18 de septiembre!!!
