Tonight I leave for the 8th Region of Chile, miles from the epicenter where the Earthquake had hit the hardest and destroyed communities. The town in which I venture is along the coast in a port, in which the tsunami swept up all their homes and left them with nothing. My backpack is packed full of work gloves, flashlight, hammer, heavy clothes, rain jacket, dried goods (rice, soup, noodles)and I couldn't be more thrilled to lend a helping hand. The mission is to construct atleast one entire home: bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and living, from the ground up. I cannot imagine what condition the community is in, the people I'll meet and the things I'll learn. I can't imagine building a home without any prior knowledge IN ENGLISH, let alone learning how to build a home IN SPANISH! I will surely make my Dad proud (if only I would have borrowed a tool belt huh dude!!)
Seeing how I am spending the last of my money. Did I mention I started a new budgeting system where I make envelopes for certain causes: Transportation, Food, Rent, and FUN money! This trip to the south came up at the last minute and seeing how we are nearly done with the month of May you can imagine what I had left over in the FUN money envelope but the Lord provides--I am able to borrow a sleeping bag from a friend of menfis, work gloves/backpack/warm clothes from menfis and can hitch a ride with a friend of a friend down there, and due to my laziness and lack of cooking skills I still have pleanty of dry goods awaiting to be cooked in my food pantry to bring along with me...and I'll make it there no skin off my back! Speaking of food..my veggies were starting to look a little droopy and seeing as I'll be gone the next 4 days I opted to cook up all the perishable food I had laying around to create some poor man's stew. And with One tomato, one green pepper, one red pepper, 4 slices of salami, two eggs, a few squirts of ketchup and four tortillas later...I am not only full but entirely disgusted!! Haha I think I am getting good at this living on my own stuff--learning how to budget, cook, and SURVIVE!
Keep praying for me and updating me on life in the States. I love you guys and am so grateful for all events that have led up to this very moment...all the people that I have been blessed to have in my life..the lessons I've learned and the love that I have received. Thanks for always supporting me and taking part in enjoying this experience with me!!! What do you call a female Jack-of-all-trades?....I think I may just aspire to be that--just like my Dad!!
